Olivia Rubini Did Something “Perfect” to Secure the Final Spot on The Voice Season 25
It feels safe to say the 24-year-old would’ve gotten a Four-Chair Turn if three Coaches’ teams weren’t already full.
It feels safe to say that Olivia Rubini’s Blind Audition would have resulted in a Four-Chair Turn had three of the Coaches’ teams not already filled all their slots. But that just meant it was John Legend who benefited from Rubini’s placement as the last Blind Audition of Season 25. She truly closed out this stage of The Voice in spectacular fashion.
How to Watch
Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
Rubini, who hails from Wilmington, Delaware, grew up in a musical household. Her father, Ritchie Rubini, is a music producer, and before her Audition, the 24-year-old explained that growing up as a producer’s child was “amazing.”
“Sleeping in guitar cases,” Rubini recalled. “Growing up with big honking’ guitars that I had no business holding.”
Rubini asked her dad to produce her when she was about 14, and his professional expertise helped her define her sound as a vocal Artist.
“I see myself being the sort of Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Knicks, Fleetwood Mac, old ‘70s sound,” Rubini said. “But also fun and pop, like Miley Cyrus or Harry Styles.”

For her Audition, Rubini opted to sing “Long, Long Time,” which Ronstadt herself made into a big hit in 1970. It did not take long before Legend — the only Coach who still had an open spot on his team — to hit his button. When Rubini saw that he’d turned his chair, it caused her to briefly pause to giggle in happiness. Legend later said that the charming moment was the only misstep in an otherwise flawless Audition.
The other Coaches, Reba McEntire, Chance the Rapper, and the duo of Dan + Shay, all said that they would have turned their chairs if they’d been able to.
“I think you’re a star,” said Chance, a thought which Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay echoed when he added, “I would buy your album today.”
“I was waiting for the perfect person to fill my team with, and Olivia, I am so happy that I didn’t have to fight these people for you,” Legend said (and Chance jumped in to say that it would indeed have been a fight if he still had an open spot). “It just sounded like someone who understands how to be a vocal Artist and not just a singer.”
With Rubini joining Team Legend, the first stage of The Voice is now over. Next up is the Battles stage!
